Welsh mental health charity creates site to tackle loneliness

Loneliness and social isolation are becoming increasingly recognised as a real danger to our health.

A study published last year in Perspectives on Psychological Science claimed that there is strong evidence that the negative impact of loneliness on health can shorten your life.

It can be hard for people with a mental illness to talk to others, and for many men this can be particularly difficult. The fact that many people in Wales live in very rural areas can make it even harder to find the support they need.

This is why Welsh mental health charity Hafal has created an online community called Clic. According to their website, it aims to provide “people in Wales with a mental illness and their carers with a safe and secure place online to support each other”.

Dave Vice works for Hafal as Coordinator of the Connect for Recovery project, which is responsible for creating Clic.

We spoke to him to find out more about how this online community can help to stop people with a mental illness from feeling isolated.
